Hello, My name is John Eccles and I am an Ofsted registered childminder based in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. I work alongside my assistant Jessica Critchley and we work together to provide a warm, caring safe and secure environment for children.  I am just one of two male childminders locally!

I live with my step brother Simon and our pet cat Lola. Simon does not work with me but has undertaken an Enhanced DBS. Simon works as a kitchen assistant at Risedale Nursing Home. Lola is a really friendly and affectionate cat and gets on well with children she is up to date with all of her vaccines and immunisations and visits the vets regularly.

I have been registered with Ofsted since 2013. I thoroughly enjoy my job as I love working with children. It is also a very rewarding job where no two days are the same!
I am an experienced and professional childminder having worked with children all of my life both in paid and voluntary roles within schools as a teaching assistant and as a unit helper with the local 33rd Barrow Rainbows and Brownies group. Through working in schools I have gained experience of supporting children with special needs such as ASD.  I am fully qualified with a Foundation Degree in Early Years.

I work alongside my assistant Jess and together  we aim to create a warm, friendly, safe and secure environment where children can thrive and develop to their full potential and learn and develop all of the necessary skills for when they leave our care and go onto big school.

My Qualifications

I have gained the following qualifications:

  • Foundation Degree In Early Years
  • Cache Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education
  • Cache Level 2 Certificate in Childcare and Education
  • Cumbria Introduction to Quality Childminding 
  • ITC 12 Hour Paediatric First Aid Certificate (renewed every 3 years) 
  • Safeguarding Children course

Jessica Critchley
Childminding Assistant

Hello, My name is Jessica Critchley (or Jess for short!) I am an experienced childminding assistant having worked here since September 2016. I also have experience of working with young children including babies.

Before joining Toddle In I worked as teaching assistant at Newbarns Primary and also with babies at Hindpool Nursery. I am also a volunteer at Leonard Cheshire Dissability where I support adults and children with disabilities.

I am fully qualified with a NVQ Level 2 in Childcare and Learning.

I am currently training to become a childminding assistant with the aim of becoming a childminder in next few years.

I enjoy looking after my friends children and occasional babysitting for clients.
