My Setting
I live an work in a spacious mid-terraced property situated in a quiet residential area close to Sacred Heart Primary School. We are conveniently situated just a short drive from the town centre, close to all local amenities, near to all local bus routes and to the main train station.
I use all of the ground of the property for my Childminding. There is a spacious child-friendly open plan living and dining room in which children can play, learn and explore together.
There is a wide range of easily accessible age appropiate toys, games, books and other resources. The children have access to a TV and games console and DVD player (although screen time is limited) and space for children to chill out and relax before or after school. I have a comfy sofa where children can sit and relax. I also have a child sized table and chairs as well as a dining table where we all sit to eat our meals and snacks and do various other messy activities and table top games. I have a travel cot for babies and toddlers to sleep in.
There is a rear kitchen accessed via the rear living room which leads to a downstairs bathroom and WC. Everything is all on one level which means it is safer as there are no stairs to climb. I take the safety and well being of the children in my care seriously and there are safety gates fitted to the kitchen door as well as child safety locks on all kitchen cupboards.
We are a non smoking household and smoking is strictly prohibited. We have a pet cat called Lola and she is very friendly and is up to date with all of her vaccines and immunisations. Her feeding bowls and food are kept well out of the reach of children. She loves being around children but takes some time to get used to them. She tends to hide away upstairs or spends her day outside. When the cat is around the children I supervise them at all times to ensure their own safety. I feel having pets is beneficial to children as they can get used to being around and caring for pets and animals.
I also have a rear yard but this is only used for storage and as an emergency exit. However, I am very lucky to live near to the big park which we make daily visits to where there is an adventure playground, woods and mini golf as well as a greenhouse with stunning flower displays to admire, a duck pond to feed the ducks as well as open grassy areas for children to play. We also go on regular outings to local children's centre, soft play, playgroups and the beach or library.
